Kilograms to pounds and back, with the exact definition: a pound is 0.45359237 kilograms, fixed by agreement in 1959, and every other imperial weight follows from it.
How it works
Each unit is defined as a number of kilograms, so a conversion goes through kilograms and back out. The table shows the same weight in every unit at once.
Strictly these are masses rather than weights. The distinction matters in physics — mass is constant, weight is a force and depends on gravity — and not at all on a kitchen scale, which is why the everyday word is used here.

Frequently asked questions
A ton is not a tonne?
Three different units share the name. A tonne is 1000 kg. A US short ton is 907.18474 kg, and a UK long ton is 1016.0469088 kg. All three are listed separately here because a shipping quote in the wrong one is off by up to twelve per cent.
Why does my body weight in stones look odd?
A stone is 14 pounds, so weights are usually written as stones and remaining pounds. The converter gives a decimal number of stones; multiply the fraction by 14 for the pounds.
Good to know
- Every factor used here is an exact definition rather than a rounded measurement, so the only error in a result is the one that comes from displaying it with a finite number of digits.
