The short version

There is no account, no profile and no history. The tools that can run inside your browser do, and what you paste into them never leaves your device.

What stays in your browser

Tools marked as running locally — the JSON tools, for example — parse and transform your document with code that is already loaded in the page. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is logged and nothing is stored. You can disconnect from the network after the page has loaded and they keep working.

Your light or dark theme preference is kept in your browser's local storage. It never reaches the server and is only readable by this site.

The metronome keeps its three presets there as well — a tempo, a rhythm and the settings around them. They stay in the browser you saved them in: not on the server, not on your other devices, and not in another browser on the same machine. Clearing this site's data removes them.

What reaches the server

  • Tools that compute server-side put their inputs in the URL, so those values appear in the request. Only fields that are safe to share are ever placed there: a tool that can hold confidential text never puts anything in a link.
  • The search box asks the server for suggestions as you type, so what you type in it is sent as a request. It is compared against the list of tools and is not stored.
  • Like any website, the server keeps technical logs of the requests it serves, including IP address, date, requested URL and browser identification. They are used for security and debugging.
  • When something breaks, the error is recorded on the server so it can be fixed. Application errors are logged without the values you typed into a tool.

Cookies

One technical cookie is set, holding an anti-forgery token that protects form submissions. It carries no identifier, is not used to recognise you, and is not shared with anyone.

The advertising network may set cookies of its own. When it does, and how to refuse them, is explained under Advertising below.

Audience measurement sets cookies only if you accept them. What it records without them is explained under Analytics below.

Analytics

Audience measurement on this site uses Google Analytics. It counts the pages that are viewed, and Google reports where visitors come from and which devices and browsers they use.

Google Analytics is loaded with every kind of storage refused. Unless you accept cookies in a consent message, it stores nothing in your browser and sends measurements without an identifier: a visit is counted, but your next one cannot be linked to it.

The address it receives stops before the ? and the #, so the values of a tool never reach it, whether it computes in your browser or on the server. Like any resource your browser loads, it also receives your IP address and browser identification.

You can also block it on every site you visit with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

Advertising on this site is served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to this site and to other websites.

Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are first shown a message from Google asking for their consent, and no advertising cookie is set before they answer it. If you refuse, ads are still shown, but they are not personalised and Google stores no advertising cookie for them.

You can change your answer at any time.

You can also turn off personalised advertising in Google's ad settings, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Google receives what any resource your browser loads receives: the address of the page, your IP address and your browser identification. It never sees what you type into a tool that runs in your browser. On the tools computed by the server, the values in the address are part of what it sees, which is why no tool handling a personal figure puts it there.
